Dense Fog Advisory

Statement as of 4:19 AM PST on December 05, 2008

Expires 1:00 PM EST on December 05, 2008

... Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 am PST this morning
for the southern San Joaquin Valley...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a dense fog
advisory for the southern San Joaquin Valley... which is in effect
until 10 am PST this morning.

Areas of dense fog with visibility reduced to just a few hundred
feet have formed over Kern... Kings and Tulare counties. The
Bakersfield Metro area has areas of visibiity at around 200 feet
and this will make driving very hazardous for the morning commute.

With visibility this low... it is imperative that drivers allow for
an extended commute time. You must reduce your speed and pay
careful attention to other vehicles as sudden slowing or stopping
may occur. In city driving... even traffic signals will be
difficult to see until you are very close to intersections. Pay
very close attention and watch for pedestrians in city driving
this morning especially in the Bakersfield Metro area.

The fog will dissipate later this morning.

Special Weather Statement

Statement as of 3:26 AM PST on December 05, 2008

Expires 9:30 AM EST on December 05, 2008

... Patchy dense fog and localized frost this morning over the
central and southern San Joaquin Valley...

Variable weather conditions will prevail this morning over the
central and southern San Joaquin Valley as patchy dense fog has
formed... while in other areas localized frost is occurring.

Visibility in the Bakersfield Metro area has fallen to around 600
feet in places and these conditions will likely persist through
the morning hours. Elsewhere in the valley... localized reports of
visibility of less than one-quarter of a mile have been reported
however widespread dense fog has not yet formed.

Temperatures also vary considerably and in colder locations
readings have dropped into the 32 to 35 degree range. Given these
conditions... localized frost is likely.

This variable weather is due to differing amounts of cloud cover
and available moisture. Locations which have been or are now
having clear skies are either becoming foggy if moist enough... or
frosty as drier air allows the temperature to fall more quickly.

Both the patchy fog and frost will persist through mid morning.
